Each year the ISSCR presents awards for outstanding poster presentations by junior investigators. This year’s winners received $250, a complimentary registration to the ISSCR 8th Annual Meeting in 2010 in San Francisco, California, and a one-year subscription to Cell Stem Cell. Congratulations to the 2009 winners:
Dong Wook Han (Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine, Germany). Sox2 boosts pluripotency of mouse epiblast stem cells.
Maroun Khoury (Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, USA). Angiopoietin-like-5 secreted by mesenchymal stem cells supports a long term ex vivo expansion of human hematopoietic stem cells.
Reinhold J. Medina (Centre for Vision & Vascular Science, Queen's University Belfast, UK). Human blood-derived endothelial progenitor cells promote vascular repair in the ischaemic retina.
Jonathan A. Nowak (The Rockefeller University, USA). Mouse hair follicle stem cells are specified early and govern skin morphogenesis.
Marta Walasek (University Medical Center, Groningen, Netherlands). Valproic acid and lithium postpone mouse hematopoietic stem cell differentiation in ex vivo cultures with growth factors.
