Regulatory Oversight for Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research
The ISSCR:
a) Endorses the regulatory mechanisms proposed by the U.S. National Academy of Sciences for American human embryonic stem cell research. Such an endorsement would be for American research only, and potential endorsement of regulatory mechanisms proposed by other countries to guide their own research will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
b) Requests that the U.S. National Academy of Sciences constitute an ongoing panel that would continue to monitor the field of human embryonic stem cell research and modify/update proposed guidelines to keep pace with scientific developments.
c) Requests that the U.S. National Academy of Sciences begin working with other non-American National Academies and Royal Societies, etc. to coordinate international efforts to develop consistent regulatory approaches to human embryonic stem cell research.
