Election Process

The ISSCR Board of Directors consists of 21 members, and includes the president, president elect, vice president, past president, clerk and treasurer. Nominations for the Board of Directors are made by ISSCR members in September and October and candidates are slated with an emphasis on scientific authority and to keep the overall international diversity of the board.

Votes are held the following February to:

• Elect a vice president, treasurer and clerk
• Endorse the appointment of slated nominees to the board of directors

The new officers and directors begin their term following the ISSCR Annual Meeting.

Term of appointment
The term of appointment begins following the Annual Meeting. For example, the 2008 term started after the 6th ISSCR Annual Meeting in June 2008 and runs through the 7th ISSCR Annual Meeting in July 2009.  Each member of the Board of Directors serves three years after which they may be nominated for reelection.

Election of Vice President
The elected candidate will serve as vice president for one year, then will go on to become the president-elect the following year and, in the third year, be president of the ISSCR. The candidate will serve an additional year as past president. For example, the candidate elected in 2009 as vice president will take on the presidency following the 9th Annual Meeting in 2011 and hold this position until the end of the 10th Annual Meeting in 2012.

Voting for the 2009 elections closed at 6 p.m. EST on March 5, 2009. Watch for election results to be posted on this Web site and in the April issue of The Pulse.
