1. Answer questions about you and your work
Based on responses to questions about your work and job functions, your membership category will be assigned.

2. Provide endorsements or certifications*
Please have the name and email address of a current ISSCR member or training director (supervisor, coordinator, or advisor).

New applicants must be endorsed by an existing member or certify their status as a student or fellow. If you do not know and existing member, you may choose to have the membership committee review your application.

3. Upload CV*
Full and Affiliate member applicants must upload a current CV.

*Waived for most returning members who paid dues within the last 5 years. Trainee members must be re-certified each year after 5 years from program begin date.

Membership Categories

Membership runs each calendar year January 1 through December 31. Dues are not prorated, however, dues received after October 1 will be applied to the following calendar year. Dues are payable in U.S. Dollars (USD) by credit card, check, or wire transfer.

For your convenience, you may sign up for 3 years and save 5%.

Member ($150)
Any person with a doctoral degree or its equivalent who has manifested a continuous interest in any discipline important to stem cell research as evidenced by work in the field, original contributions, and attendance at meetings concerning stem cell research. Individuals who lack a doctorate but have exceptional qualifications are also eligible.

Trainee Member
Postdoctoral fellows, graduate and undergraduate students in stem cell research programs.

Emeritus Member
Any member who has retired from active research or training and has been a member for at least five years may request transfer to the status of Emeritus Member by written application. For more information, please email

Affiliate Member
Individual representatives of industry and others with an interest in stem cell research who do not qualify under Member or Trainee Member requirements.

The International and Membership Committees consider the full cost of ISSCR membership prohibitive for some countries. Members whose sole laboratory is in one of the countries below are eligible to receive reduced dues.
