ISSCR Abstract Submission Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I have to be an ISSCR member to submit an abstract?

No, but all meeting participants are encouraged to apply for membership in the Society. ISSCR membership is open to stem cell investigators in all environments including universities, medical schools, government agencies, for profit and not-for-profit research laboratories and industries worldwide. Membership benefits include a substantial meeting registration discount. Details and applications are available at http://www.isscr.org/
  • Is there an abstract submission fee?

Yes, there is a $50.00 USD non-refundable charge to submit an abstract. All presenters must also register for the meeting at the appropriate rate. Submission of an abstract does not constitute registration for the meeting.  You can wait to register until you hear if your abstract is accepted, but you must register in order to present.
  • What presentation formats are available?

You may submit an abstract for an oral or poster presentation. All submissions are subject to review and ranked for scientific content. The highest ranked oral presentation submissions in each category will be invited to give an oral presentation in a concurrent session. Most of the remaining submissions will be accepted for poster presentations. Oral presentations must indicate whether they are willing to present as a poster if the program committee is unable to accept the abstract for an oral presentation.  Willingness to accept a poster presentation will in no way inhibit the opportunity for an oral presentation.  For more information, view the Call for Abstracts and Author Guidelines.
  • How long can an abstract be?

Abstracts submitted for the ISSCR Annual Meeting cannot exceed 3,000 characters, not including spaces.
  • Are there special programs for junior investigators?

Junior investigators receive substantial discounts on ISSCR membership and meeting registration.  However, in order to register at the discounted rate, you must first join the Society as an Associate member. The 2013 ISSCR annual meeting includes a program of educational, networking and social events for junior investigators. In addition, junior investigators' poster presentations may also be considered for the ISSCR Poster Awards.
  • When will I know if my abstract was chosen for a concurrent session or when my poster presentation is scheduled?

Presenting authors will receive an email notification of their abstract placement, including information on the specific concurrent or poster session, no later than April 5, 2013. If, after this date, you have not received notification, please contact Liz Weislogel at lweislogel@isscr.org; +1-224-592-5752.
  • Where and when will my abstract (if accepted) be published?

The ISSCR may publish the titles and authors of accepted abstracts in electronic and/or print formats before the meeting. Abstracts will be made available to meeting registrants from approximately one month prior to the meeting. Abstracts accepted for oral presentation will be published in the meeting final program. Poster abstracts will be published in the meeting poster abstract books and made available in print and electronic form to meeting attendees. Following the meeting, these materials may be made publicly available.
  • If I apply for membership, when will my membership be approved?

Membership applications are approved by the Membership Committee only after all required paperwork is submitted. First-time applicants will receive notification of membership status approximately 30 days from receipt of your completed application. Applications for Active and Affiliate membership need to include a CV and a completed membership endorsement form while associate members need to submit a signed associate member form. To register for the Annual Meeting at the discounted member rate, applications must be received no later than June 10, 2013.
  • Whom do I contact if I have a question about abstract submission or membership?
