JDRF position paper on human embryonic stem cells. In September 2003 the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation published a position paper on the state of affairs of human embryonic stem cell research, including a detailed discussion on adult versus embryonic stem cells, the availability of federally-approved cell lines, and suggests the lack of enthusiasm within the stem cell research community to request to the full extent the allocated money from the NIH. The paper advocates “the creation of a research environment where human ES cell research can flourish quickly and successfully, within a framework of scientific, ethical, and practical guidelines, with the goal of uncovering ways to help Americans suffering from a wide range of diseases”, and lays down a few suggestions to attain this goal.
