ISSCR Celebrates Inaugural Issue of its Open Access Journal, Stem Cell Reports

Jun 04, 2013

Skokie, Illinois, USA, June 4, 2013 — The International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) is excited to announce the inaugural issue of Stem Cell Reports, the society’s new open-access journal, published today. Stem Cell Reports, published for the ISSCR by Cell Press, presents high-quality, peer-reviewed research presenting conceptual or practical advances across the breadth of stem cell research and its applications to medicine, with a focus on shorter, single-point articles.

“We are pleased to present this first issue of Stem Cell Reports, our new open access journal and an important part of the society’s efforts to strengthen global communication and collaboration between scientists, and to drive forward the field of stem cell research,” said Shinya Yamanaka, MD, PhD, ISSCR President.

Stem Cell Reports has been embraced by the stem cell research community. We are particularly thankful to the ISSCR’s Board of Directors, ISSCR members and the Stem Cell Reports Editorial Board, who have both submitted and reviewed manuscripts with exceptional loyalty,” said Editor-in-chief Christine Mummery, PhD, Leiden University Medical Center, Netherlands, who is delighted with the first issue. “We showcase a cross-section of stem cell research, reflecting the mission of the journal to present high quality research across the breadth of stem cell research. In the form of Reports, Articles and Resources, this month’s issue covers both tissue-specific and pluripotent stem cells and touches on signaling and fate determination, telomere biology, mammalian tissue repair, imprinting and developmental tools to study regeneration.”

Dr Mummery and Associate Editors Nissim Benvenisty, MD, PhD (Hebrew University, Israel), Thomas Graf, PhD (Center for Genomic Regulation, Spain), Hideyuki Okano, MD, PhD (Keio University School of Medicine, Japan) and David Scadden, MD, PhD (Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard University, USA) will join an expected 4000 stem cell researchers from around the world at the ISSCR’s 11th Annual Meeting next week in Boston, where the launch of Stem Cell Reports will be celebrated.

“Stem Cell Reports is an important complement to the ISSCR’s Annual Meeting series and Regional Forums in promoting the exchange of advances and new ideas in stem cell research,” said Nancy Witty, CEO of ISSCR.

In addition to immediate open access to all articles at stemcellreports.cell.com, the inaugural issue of Stem Cell Reports will be presented to attendees in print at the ISSCR 11th Annual Meeting, June 12-15, in Boston.
