The ISSCR is saddened to announce that Nanci Ryder has lost her six-year battle with ALS. The stem cell community may recall that Ms. Ryder shared her journey with ALS during the ISSCR 2019 annual meeting in Los Angeles. A renowned Hollywood publicist, Ms. Ryder was a vocal patient advocate for the devastating disease since revealing her diagnosis in 2014. She worked tirelessly to raise public awareness about ALS, and to advance the search for effective treatments and cures for ALS along with the help of her many friends and supporters.
“Nanci Ryder was an amazing woman,” Justin Ichida, USC Stem Cell, USA. “The first thing I noticed when I met her six years ago was that her friends really loved her, and I came to understand why. Nanci worked tirelessly to improve the lives of others. She participated in many, many patient advocacy events, including inspiring 3,000 stem cell scientists at ISSCR to find a cure for ALS. These events were not easy for her, but she knew they would help future ALS patients. We'll miss Nanci, she’s given us a lifetime of inspiration.”
