ISSCR Launches Website to Inform Patients and the Public About Stem Cells

Evanston, IL – The International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) has launched a new public education website, AboutStemCells.org, developed to help patients, families, and the public learn more about stem cells and their application to improve human health. The new site, which replaces www.closerlookatstemcells.org represents a continuation of ISSCR’s commitment to helping all people better understand and appreciate stem cell research.

“The ISSCR has a long history of sharing scientifically validated information about the potential of stem cell research and clinical advances with the public,” said Amander T. Clark, ISSCR President. “Our reimagined website, AboutStemCells.org, gives us an important avenue to educate the public about the importance of our work, combat misinformation, and raise awareness for the dangers of using unproven and unapproved stem cell-based treatments.”

AboutStemCells.org is an educational resource providing accessible and reliable information about stem cell research, its applications, and its potential in healthcare. The information is designed to empower patients and the public with knowledge and understanding of stem cell research and treatments, enabling them to make well-informed personal health decisions.

The site builds on the success of the ISSCR’s previous public-facing website, “A Closer Look at Stem Cells,” which launched more than a decade ago and communicated basic stem cell science and disease-specific research advances. AboutStemCells.org features the newly updated Guide to Stem Cell Treatments as well as pragmatic information about cell banking and donation, emerging research trends, clinical trials, unapproved stem cell “treatments,” and more.
