Stem Cell Reports Appoints Hongmei Wang as Associate Editor

The International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) is pleased to announce the appointment of Hongmei Wang, Ph.D., as an Associate Editor of its journal, Stem Cell Reports. Dr. Wang is a professor of State Key Laboratory of Organ Regeneration and Reconstruction, Institute of Zoology (IOZ), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

‍An internationally recognized leader in developmental and reproductive biology, Dr. Wang brings deep expertise in early embryo and placental development, and advanced in vitro modeling systems. Her laboratory investigates the mechanisms that govern embryonic and placental development in non-human primates and humans, with the long-term goal of improving understanding of pregnancy health and exploring culture systems that support extra-uterine embryogenesis. Her work advances understanding of developmental diseases and holds potential for improving reproductive health outcomes.

‍“Dr. Wang is an exceptional scientist whose work has advanced our understanding of early mammalian development and placental biology,” said Janet Rossant, Ph.D., Editor-in-Chief of Stem Cell Reports. “Her scientific expertise combined with her leadership in the field will significantly strengthen the journal’s coverage of developmental biology and reproductive science. We are delighted to welcome her to the editorial team.”

‍ Dr. Wang earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Cell Biology from Beijing Normal University and completed her PhD in Reproductive Biology at the Institute of Zoology in 2002. After postdoctoral training at the Ottawa Health Research Institute at the University of Ottawa, she joined the State Key Laboratory of Stem Cell and Reproductive Biology in 2006. She is the deputy director of the IOZ, serves as the chairman of the Chinese Society of Reproductive Biology, and is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Loke Centre for Trophoblast Research at the University of Cambridge. She previously served as the director of the State Key Laboratory of Stem Cell and Reproductive Biology at the IOZ, CAS, from 2017-2025.

“I am deeply honored to be appointed as an Associate Editor for Stem Cell Reports,” Dr. Wang said. “I look forward to collaborating with the team to advance the field and contribute to the continued success of the journal.”

‍In addition to her scientific contributions, Dr. Wang is a dedicated mentor committed to training the next generation of scientists in stem cell and reproductive biology. Her appointment further reinforces Stem Cell Reports’ commitment to publishing rigorous, innovative research that advances fundamental discovery and translational impact across the global stem cell community.
