2024 Election Results

Eligible ISSCR members voted in an open election for vice president, three new directors, and the re-appointment of three eligible directors. Congratulations to the ISSCR's new, elected leaders whose terms begin 1 July 2024: Vice President Lorenz Studer, Directors Tenneille Ludwig, Jacqueline Barry, Thomas Rando, and re-appointed directors Melissa Carpenter, Malin Parmar, and Mitinori Saitou.

  • Lorenz Studer, MD | Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, USA

    VICE PRESIDENT

    Lorenz Studer is the founding director of the Center for Stem Cell Biology & member of the Developmental Biology Program, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

  • Jacqueline Barry, PhD | Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult, UK

    DIRECTOR (REGULATORY EXPERTISE)

    Jacqueline Barry is Chief Clinical Officer at the UK’s Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult.

  • Tenneille E. Ludwig, PhD | WiCell, USA

    DIRECTOR (INDUSTRY EXPERTISE)

    Dr. Tenneille Ludwig is the Senior Scientist and Director of the WiCell Stem Cell Bank at WiCell in Madison, WI, USA and a member of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Center. Dr. Ludwig is a co-recipient of the 2024 ISSCR Public Service Award for her joint work leading the development of the first international, comprehensive Standards for Human Stem Cell Use in Research.

  • Thomas A. Rando, MD, PhD | University of California, Los Angeles, USA 

    DIRECTOR (CLINICAL EXPERTISE)

    Dr. Rando is Professor of Neurology and Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology and the Director of the Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research at the University of California, Los Angeles.

  • Melissa Carpenter, PhD | Carpenter Consulting Corporation, USA

    RE-APPOINTED DIRECTOR

    Dr. Melissa Carpenter is founder and President of Carpenter Consulting Corporation.

  • Malin Parmar, PhD | Lund University, Sweden

    RE-APPOINTED DIRECTOR

    Malin Parmar is currently a full Professor in cellular neuroscience at the medical faculty, Lund University, a Swedish Research Council Distinguished Professor and a New York Stem Cell Foundation Robertson Investigator alumni. Parmar is currently co-chair of the 2024 Annual Meeting in Hamburg, Germany.

  • Mitinori Saitou, MD, PhD | Kyoto University, Japan

    RE-APPOINTED DIRECTOR

    Dr. Saitou is director of the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Biology (ASHBi), Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan.

About the ISSCR Board and Nominating Process

The ISSCR Board of Directors consists of 23 members. Six officers – the President, President-elect, Vice President, Past President, Clerk, and Treasurer – comprise the Executive Committee.

Nominations for the Board of Directors are submitted by the ISSCR community annually between August and September. All nominations are reviewed by the Nominating Committee, chaired by the Past President. Candidates are selected with attention given to scientific authority, international diversity, overall board composition, and strategic initiatives of the organization.
