The Power of Partnership

Each year, as thousands of colleagues gather for the ISSCR Annual Meeting, I’m reminded of the deep partnerships that make up our international community. It’s a reminder that we’re strongest when we work together.

As an organization, the ISSCR lives by the same philosophy. We’re forming new partnerships that amplify our voice, make our work most impactful, and add diversity in perspective and expertise.

Just last week, the ISSCR announced a new partnership with the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute to support the new Stem Cell Reports Early Career Editorial Board. The Chen Institute Fellowship will support ECEB members to attend the ISSCR Annual Meeting, encourage mentorship, and activate new communications initiatives to share noteworthy science across borders.

We recently worked with the New York Stem Cell Foundation (NYSCF) to host two webinars on equity, diversity, and inclusion — learning about programs to ensure students with diverse backgrounds are supported in pursuit of research opportunities.

In January, we announced a collaboration with the São Paulo Research Foundation and the Federal University of São Paulo to deliver a stem cell biology course based on the ISSCR Education Committee’s Core Concepts for Stem Cell Biology: Syllabus and Learning Guide. The partnership includes an International Symposia, the first ISSCR program in Brazil, and brings the syllabus to life for 100 students from around the world.

Finally, earlier this year, the society announced new partnerships with the Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF), Doris Duke Charitable Foundation (DDCF) and the Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative (SFARI) to support the ISSCR’s new global initiative to develop Standards for Human Stem Cell Use in Research.

On behalf of all of us, I would like to thank our partners and supporters as we look forward to the meaningful impact these initiatives will have on the future of our field internationally. It’s only the beginning.

To collaboration, shared success, and making a difference,

Haifan
