Cell Fate Programming

Program Description: Over the last decade, synthetic biology tools such as genome editors have revolutionized stem cell engineering and expanded the potential for using stem cells to study diverse genetic mutations across diverse developmental contexts and in vitro models. Beyond genome editors, new tools are emerging to make stem cell engineering more rapid and robust. Further, sophisticated transgenic systems provide unprecedented insight into the dynamic processes of differentiation that guide cell-fate transitions. The advent of sophisticated genetic controllers are further expanding the potential to address questions of how cells interpret biological cues and levels of transcription factor during these dynamic transitions. This session will feature new tools and technologies to engineer stem cells and expand capabilities for measuring and guiding cell-fate transitions, including differentiation and reprogramming. The session will include new methods for rapid iPSC engineering to introduce transgenic reporters for disease modeling and cell-type identification, new genetic and computational tools for lineage tracing, novel methods and protocols for controlling differentiation, systems for engineering multicellular assemblies through chemo-genetic control, as well as genetic control systems that measure and guide cellular reprogramming. Integration of these biomolecular tools and computational resources will advance the next-generation of stem cell technologies.
