2026 Election Results

Eligible ISSCR members cast their ballot in an open election for vice president, three new directors, and the re-appointment of one eligible director. Congratulations to the ISSCR's newly elected leaders. All terms will begin at the conclusion of the ISSCR Annual Meeting, taking place 8 -11 July 2026 in Montréal, Canada: Vice President Malin Parmar, Directors Jianping Fu, Stefan Irion, Kazuto Kato, and re-appointed director Shuibing Chen.

New Members of the Board

  • Malin Parmar, PhD | Lund University, Sweden

    VICE PRESIDENT

    Malin Parmar is Professor of Cellular Neuroscience at Lund University, Sweden, Director of the Lund Stem Cell Center, as well as a Distinguished Professor of the Swedish Research Council and elected member of The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Her work bridges fundamental stem cell biology and clinical translation, with a particular focus on developing regenerative therapies for Parkinson’s disease.

  • Jianping Fu, PhD | University of Michigan, USA

    DIRECTOR

    Dr. Jianping Fu is a full professor of Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Cell & Developmental Biology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA. 

  • Stefan Irion, MD | BlueRock Therapeutics, USA

    DIRECTOR

    Stefan is the Chief Scientific Officer at BlueRock Therapeutics and a 20-year veteran of the ISSCR community. A physician-scientist who transitions seamlessly from the lab bench to the clinic, he is known for his "patient-first" approach and his drive to turn complex science into real-world medicines.

  • Kazuto Kato, PhD | University of Osaka, Japan

    DIRECTOR

    Kazuto Kato, Ph.D., is Professor of Biomedical Ethics and Public Policy at the Graduate School of Medicine and Adjunct Professor at the Premium Research Institute for Human Metaverse Medicine (WPI-PRIMe), the University of Osaka. 

  • Shuibing Chen, PhD | Weill Cornell Medicine, USA

    RE-APPOINTED DIRECTOR

    Dr. Shuibing Chen is the Kilts Family Professor and Vice Chair of Innovation in the Department of Surgery and Director of the Center for Genomic Health at Weill Cornell Medicine.

About the ISSCR Board and Nominating Process

The ISSCR Board of Directors consists of 23 members. Six officers – the President, President-elect, Vice President, Past President, Clerk, and Treasurer – comprise the Executive Committee.

Nominations for the Board of Directors are submitted by the ISSCR community annually between August and September. All nominations are reviewed by the Nominating Committee, chaired by the Past President. Candidates are selected with attention given to scientific authority, international diversity, overall board composition, and strategic initiatives of the organization.
